REGULATIONS – TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR PURCHASING ACCESS TICKETS
Last updated: 05/06/2026
Conitours, by resolution/decision N.31 DEL 03/06/2026, was officially appointed by the Municipality of Limone Piemonte to manage the access point to the road known as “ALTA VIA DEL SALE”, traditionally also known as Limone-Monesi.
The Consortium has activated an online platform for booking access tickets, together with digital information and promotional tools connected to the use of the Alta Via del Sale.
The opening period is defined by the competent bodies and Municipalities following inspections, technical checks and specific ordinances, which will be published on the portal or communicated through official channels.
These Terms and Conditions govern the purchase of access tickets through the altaviadelsale.it portal, limited to the Limone Piemonte access gate.
COMPLIANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS
Applicants for access undertake to read the provisions contained in the ordinances of the competent Municipalities, in the Alta Via del Sale access regulations and in these Terms and Conditions.
The ordinance governing access to the Alta Via del Sale can be consulted at the following link:
Ordinanza N.16 del 03/06/2026
Responsibility for regulating travel along the road lies with the managing Municipalities and competent bodies, which determine the opening and closing period, including in specific situations that may endanger users’ safety.
The Consortium of Tourism Operators of the Province of Cuneo, known as Conitours, declines all responsibility for any damage to persons, animals, vehicles or property resulting from transit in violation of the prohibitions, requirements and regulations in force, including:
- these Terms and Conditions for purchasing access;
- l'Ordinanza N.16 del 03/06/2026 approved by the Limone Piemonte Municipality;
- the ordinances and provisions issued by the competent bodies;
- the instructions of the staff responsible for access control and traffic management.
Traffic control is entrusted to the supervisory authorities of the competent Municipalities, to the Park Rangers of the Management Body of the Alpi Marittime Protected Areas and to other authorized parties.
OPENING PERIOD AND HOURS
The opening period of the Alta Via del Sale is established annually by the relevant authorities and municipalities.
Vehicle traffic is permitted from the third Saturday of June until the third Sunday of October.
For the 2026 season, unless otherwise provided by the competent authorities, access hours are as follows:
From 08:00 to 20:00 (last entry at 18:00) during the period from the third Saturday of June to the fourth Sunday of September;
From 08:00 to 18:00 (last entry at 16:00) during the period from the Monday following the fourth Sunday of September until the third Sunday of October.
MAIN PROVISIONS OF THE ORDINANCE
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the road is closed to motorized traffic.
Due to its morphological characteristics, traffic on the Alta Via del Sale road is permitted exclusively to experienced drivers and with suitable vehicles.
Access to the road is prohibited in the event of adverse weather conditions that compromise safe passage or limit visibility. Transit is therefore prohibited in the case of adverse weather, including fog, snow, heavy rain, hail, strong wind gusts, ice, etc.
Access to the road is prohibited for particularly noisy vehicles, or vehicles showing anomalies, non-compliance, or malfunctions of the exhaust system.
Throughout the entire road, it is prohibited to:
exceed a speed of 20 km/h;
stop near bends or crests with limited visibility;
park outside the designated parking areas, which are clearly signposted.
Signs indicating parking areas also specify the maximum number of parking spaces available.
Transit is prohibited for vehicles with a maximum authorized mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes.
Transit is prohibited for vehicles with a height exceeding 2.5 metres.
Transit is prohibited for vehicles with a width exceeding 2.3 metres.
Transit is prohibited for vehicles with a length exceeding 5.5 metres.
Transit is prohibited for vehicles towing caravans, trailers, campers’ trailers, or any other type of trailer or auxiliary trailer, regardless of weight or dimensions.
Transit is prohibited for motorhomes (RVs/campers) and buses/coaches.
Access for motor vehicles on the section of road between Cabanaira and Colle della Boaria, and between Colle dei Signori and the junction with the forest road to Upega, is regulated by the opening and closing of movable barriers (toll gates/checkpoints) located at the access points to the road and managed by the Municipalities of Limone Piemonte and Briga Alta. The temporary absence or inactivity of these checkpoints shall be considered as a closure of the road to traffic.
It is therefore important to strictly observe the traffic light timings and proceed with caution. The green light lasts 10 minutes, while the red light lasts 50 minutes.
In the Limone–Monesi direction, the green light is activated every hour starting from 08:30.
In the Monesi–Limone direction, the green light is activated every hour starting from 09:00.
Opening hours, opening days, and access arrangements may be subject to change for technical, organizational, meteorological, environmental, or safety reasons, due to orders issued by the competent authorities, or as a result of force majeure.

In order to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the Alta Via del Sale experience in the best possible way, the following good practices are adopted:

- listening to visitors’ needs and reports;
- encouraging an orderly, informed and respectful use of the territory.
SUBJECT OF THE SERVICE
The service consists of booking and purchasing an access ticket to the Alta Via del Sale from the Limone Piemonte gate, according to daily availability, fares, opening hours and regulations in force.
The altaviadelsale.it portal allows tickets to be purchased exclusively for access from the Limone Piemonte gate.
To book access from the Briga Alta gate, the reference website is:
https://briga.info/
The website may also provide information on maps, route, GPX files, regulations, webcam, gadgets and related tourist services. Any external or related services, such as tourist packages, excursions, rentals or accommodation facilities, may be provided through third-party websites or providers, which apply their own terms of use.
NATURE OF THE ROUTE AND USER RESPONSIBILITY
The Alta Via del Sale is a high-mountain unpaved road. The route must not be considered an ordinary road and may include narrow sections, uneven surfaces, potholes, stones, lack of downstream protections, variable weather conditions, falling rocks or other typical features of a mountain environment.
Users must carefully assess the suitability of their vehicle, their driving or riding experience, weather conditions, the state of the route and any other useful factor before undertaking the journey.
Anyone travelling along the Alta Via del Sale does so under their own responsibility, undertaking to comply with the regulations, ordinances, signage, speed limits, traffic lights, instructions from the staff and any requirement aimed at safety.
Conitours declines all responsibility for damage to persons, animals, vehicles or property resulting from imprudent behaviour, failure to comply with the rules, violation of prohibitions, unsuitable vehicle conditions, unsuitable driving, or failure to observe signage or instructions received.
DAILY ACCESS LIMITS
Access by motorized vehicles is subject to a predefined and non-derogable maximum daily number.
Availability of entries may vary until the purchase procedure and related payment have been completed. The ticket is considered valid only after successful payment and receipt of the booking confirmation.
It is also possible to purchase the ticket directly at the toll booth, subject to remaining availability. However, for cars, motorcycles, quads and motorized vehicles, advance online purchase is strongly recommended. Arriving at the toll booth without a booking involves the risk of being unable to access if the available places have already been sold out.
BOOKING AND TICKET PURCHASE PROCEDURE
To book and purchase access, the online form must be completed in all mandatory parts.
The user must click on “Buy the ticket”, choose the desired date from the calendar, select the type and quantity of vehicles with which they intend to travel along the Alta Via del Sale and complete the required data.
It is possible to purchase multiple entries in a single transaction, including for multiple vehicles, according to availability and the rules in force.
During the purchase procedure it is necessary to indicate the details of the group leader and the requested information relating to the vehicles. For vehicles with a registration plate, entering the registration plate is mandatory. For bicycles and e-bikes, if there is a plate, identification code or other identifying element, it must be entered in the appropriate field.
It is not possible to access the Alta Via del Sale anonymously or without providing the requested data. These data are necessary for organizational and safety reasons, for access management and for checking daily access limits.
